Print and Cut The Pattern & Prepare The Material

To get started, gather the following materials:

For a Double-Toned Tote Bag:
- 50 cm of the outer bag fabric (lighter fabric)
- 1 m of the lining and straps fabric (black fabric)

For a Monotone Tote Bag: 1.5 m fabric

You can use fabrics such as linen, non-stretch cotton, or any sturdy fabric suitable for tote bags.

Step 1: Prepare The Pocket

1.1 Fold 2 cm twice over the wrong side of the pocket fabric.
1.2 Press the folds in place and pin them securely.
1.3 Stitch along the folded edge to secure it.
1.4 Fold in 1 cm along each of the three remaining raw edges of the pocket.
1.5 Press these folds in place.

Step 2: Stitch the Pocket onto the Lining

2.1 Position the pocket on one of the lining pieces, ensuring it is on the right side of the fabric.
2.2 Pin the pocket in place using the markings on your pattern for accurate placement.
2.3 Stitch around the three folded  edges of the pocket, leaving the top edge open to form the pocket opening.

Step 3: Attach the Front and Back Pieces of the Tote Bag

3.1 Place the two lining pieces right sides together.
3.2 Pin the longer edges together, avoiding the top edge and the two small cutouts on the bottom sides.
3.3 Stitch together with a 1 cm seam allowance.
3.4 Press the seams open with your iron.
3.5 Repeat this process with the outer fabric pieces

Step 4: Prepare the Straps

4.1 Fold the straps in half horizontally, matching the edges.
4.2 Pin in place.
4.3 Stitch around the raw edges, leaving the bottom straight edge open, with a 1 cm seam allowance.
4.4 Flip the straps right side out and use a pin to achieve perfect corners.
4.5 Press the straps flat.
4.6 Fold 1 cm in on the raw edge that remains open.

Step 5: Shape the Bag

5.1 Close the corners of the bag by guiding your arm through the inside-out lining piece to match the side seam with the bottom seam.
5.2 Pin the small opening left at the corners.
5.3 Stitch 1 cm from the edge to close the opening.
5.4 Repeat these steps with the other side of the lining and the outer panel.

Step 6: Assemble the Tote Bag

6.1 Turn the outer panel inside out. The lining panel should be right sides out.
6.2 Insert the lining panel into the outer panel, right sides facing each other.
6.3 Match the side seams and pin them in place.
6.4 Pin around the top edge for precision.
6.5 Stitch around the top edge, leaving an 8 cm opening on one side.
6.6 Flip the bag right sides out through the opening.
6.7 Close the opening by topstitching over it.

Step 7: Attach the Straps

7.1 Use the guides on your pattern to place the straps on each side of the tote bag.
7.2 Pin the straps in place.
7.3 Draw an X from corner to corner of the part of the strap that will be attached to the bag.
7.4 Sew around the square and over the X to secure the straps firmly.
7.5 Place the straps one over the other and measure 30 cm from the tote bag towards the end of the strap.
7.6 Draw a line from one edge to the other and straight stitch over this line. This stitch will prevent your bow from coming loose and stretching out.
